Getting to Know You
It seems most fitting for a class about media and communications to first have the predictable yet indispensable exercise of self-presentation in a mediated environment. Obviously the manner of communication in cyberspace is starkly different from face-to-face interaction, with the loss of many symbolic cues--from body language to the rise and fall of voice pitch. But much are added as well--from the adoption of avatars to the narrative closure afforded by one's writing of a beginning, middle, and end. And in both types of communication, the challenge is to make a good first impression. What is frustrating--and exciting--of course is that we simply don't know just how our audience will react, respond, remember, reply. And, with the affordances of technology, also: comment, forward, poke, reject, block, digg, flame, spam.
However this site, and this class, is a site of hospitality. It is a site of learning and exchange. It aims to be a space premised not simply on reason and/or emotion, but on responsibility, Roger Silverstone's (2006) lofty requirement for a mediaspace. This homepage is home.
I am happy to welcome you to the website of Com101 Communication Theory Section E. I wish that you treat this online space not simply as a supplement to our offline lectures but as a meaningful resource for learning, an active and vibrant space for discussion, and a shared experience with your fellow classmates and lecturer.
Kindly reply to this post and introduce yourself below so that we can get our discussions going. Aside from your name, of course, I'd especially like to know why you picked your course. Additionally, you have the option of answering any, or all, of the following questions:
1) name a favorite tv show or movie or book and state why it makes your list.
2) how much time do you spend on the media in a typical day? do you consider yourself a heavy, medium, light user? a fan/addict/junkie of a particular technology or program or artist? why? how?
3) how do you plan to make use of your course for your future career?
Switching to a different medium, please bring a 5x7" index card with 2x2" ID photo on June 17, Tuesday. Please include: name, birth date, and contact information (cell phone and email address).
June 17, Tuesday is the first classroom lecture. Please be prepared with the Silverstone readings.

wasn't this homework? why didn't anyone fill it up? anyway, favorite show: sex and the city... i love the humor, the clothes and the boys vs girls sarcasm ;) plus it's in nyc--my fave city.. :) book: antoine de sainte exupery's the little prince just because it teaches us to be forever young. movie: i hate movies... lol anyway i spend about probably a quarter of my day soaked in the media with ipods radios tvs and laptops all around how can anyone not, right? either way, i love the media which is why i'm taking it up after all i want to be in this field; in this industry. Im taking up AB Interdisciplinary studies hopefully with the tracks com and advertising or marketing or whatever Ateneo has as an equivalent to that. The reason I took IS though instead of Com is because I want my course to be broad and open -- flexible and diverse. Many say that this is its weakness but I hope to make it its strength as well. In the future, I hope to utilize its variety and broadness by being well rounded; exposed to many different things so that whatever may come up, i can simply say, I'm a jack of all trades..

i recently shifted to this AB IS from political science because i believe that being in political science was limiting my other abilities. it was hard for me to find an outlet where i can explore the extent of my creativity. i'm taking communications and political science as my tracks in IS and i believe they go hand in hand. IS is also a very good choice because i believe that the two tracks we are made to choose does not constrict us as compared to having only one major. at least with IS i have a choice. my favorite book is the beach by alex garland because in so many ways i see myself in the lead character, richard. i am a traveller, literally and figuratively. i don't let any opportunities pass or at least i try my best to. for my favorite movie, i tried but it's hard for me to narrow all the nominees in my head. i appreciate all types of movies and i try to see the vision of the production team and through this i appreciate the movie more. to be more precise though,i especially like indie movies and movies like Big Fish, Finding Neverland, The Beach, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind...
TV nowadays is the hardest medium for me to access. i rarely have the time to watch the tube. on the other hand, everyday i am immersed in media. newspapers, magazines, billboards, fashion, trends, etc.

Hi! Good day!
The reason i picked my course which is AB IS because it was a course which was very diverse and very flexible. I believe that my course will make use of my talents and my interests. The com 101 class seemed very interesting with me because media is such a wide field, it could be a future field i would consider to work in.
hmm..favorite show? the closest thing could possibly be nba basketball, more shows on sports i guess, because i love this sport and its a great sport to follow and play as well. movies?.maybe any action move or comedy, anythin intresting.
i think i can consider myself as a heavy user of media, i use the internet to access an array of information ranging from news, sports, personnal stuff and the like. Media is very intresting!
I hope from this class, i can be able to decide or help me decide to take media as my future career after studying.

I just shifted to IS this summer from development studies. I like IS because you have a choice of two tracks. Mine are psychology and communications.
I’m not much of a reader but I enjoy watching TV series like prison break, greys anatomy, csi, gossip girl, house, smallville... i usually buy the whole series and watch it in one go. I watch a movie at least once every two weeks. I watch everything except for horror. I enjoy chick flicks! On weekdays, I watch TV for 1-2 hours and on weekends I could spend at least 4 hours just surfing the channels. I think im a medium user of TV.
Im not quite sure yet what I want to do in the future that is why I like IS. It is very diverse.

My name’s Enrico Suarez. I’m a junior, currently taking up AB IS. I was originally from Management. I really wanted to shift to Com but my parents won’t allow me. They wanted me in a business course. I took IS so I could meet my parent’s wants halfway without really shunning away what I really want..
1) name a favorite tv show or movie or book and state why it makes your list.
I couldn’t pick one so I’ll just give the three
.
Once – The film was just brilliant. The simplicity and the rawness of the film just made it more sincere plus the soundtrack’s the coolest.
Juno – For an ex-stripper, Diablo Cody can write. I can’t wait ‘til the Megan Fox as an evil high school cheerleader-vampire and Adam Brody as hero-rockstar movie comes out. That’ll be a geekfest all the way.
Across the Universe – If you haven’t seen it yet, you should.
2) how much time do you spend on the media in a typical day? do you consider yourself a heavy, medium, light user? a fan/addict/junkie of a particular technology or program or artist? why? how?
I think I’m a heavy user. I don’t know if that’s a good thing but I use the net to be updated on more media stuff like movies, music and trippy art.
3) how do you plan to make use of your course for your future career?
I really want to get into advertising or land a job wherein I can earn money but not really sacrifice the creative fun side of it all. That was actually my problem when I was in Management. There was no fun side. I’d be lucky enough if they wanted me to make an ad for some product or make a jingle for a certain campaign.

I chose IS as my course because, like everyone else, I wanted diversity and flexibility in my studies. I don't want to be restricted in just one specific course. IS lets me combine two different tracks so I am able to maximize my options.
I love reading so I cannot pinpoint just one book as my favorite. I am currently reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez's works. I just finished Memories of my Melanholy Whores and I am now starting on Love in the Time of Cholera.
I enjoy watching tv series like gossip girl, pushing daisies, sex and the city, and csi. As for movies, I like everything as long as it makes sense. I'm really easy to please :)
I hope this class will further enhance my communication skills. I'm really excited to work with media.

i picked IS because i very much enjoy the fact that we can pick different tracks that suits us well. i have just recently decided what tracks i really want from art management and management i decided to move to comm and art.
im not a fan of books either though i love knowing new things, i just usually watch TV or movies. movies i like in particular are the beach, trainspotting, city of angels. i watch probably anything from the different series, cartoons and reality shows. but i do not watch tv the whole day, i am just a medium user of TV. for books, i read gossipgirl, or anything light to read.
i want to work in an advertising company, and TV, movies or the advertisements that i see when i watch help me. but i plan to study abroad after college and take up advertising to enhance it more.

Hello. I chose AB IS because I have the freedom to choose what I want to study and the tracks that I have decided to take are Psychology and Communications since these interest me.
My favorite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Theres just something about the story and how it was written that is appealing.
I spend as much time on the tv and on the pc since I do both simultaneously and I'd say i'm a medium user of the media. I like a lot of shows like House M.D., Shark, Heroes and I also like music, even those in languages I don't understand.
As of now, I don't really know what I want to do in the future. I'll just figure that out someday.

I stared blankly at the computer screen for about a minute or so because I couldn't name just ONE favorite book/show/movie.. Haha.
House, Friends and Sex and the City are all favorite shows because they all make me laugh. My taste in movies is relatively diverse. Although I enjoy suspense thrillers and romantic comedies from time to time, my favorites are quirky, offbeat types like Sin City, American Beauty, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Closer, Lost in Translation, Almost Famous, Juno... I could go on and on, haha.
My all time favorite books are the ones from my childhood: Hope For The Flowers, Harry Potter, and Perks of Being A Wallflower; but give me anything fiction, and I'll read it. I also listen to music excessively. :D
I'm obviously a huge fan of anything and everything related to the media-- whether tv shows/movies/music/books, which is why it may seem strange why I didn't take up Com as my course. IS very much appealed to me because of its flexibility and versatility. I knew I wanted to be in that field, but I wanted something more broad. So instead, I took up IS, chose Com and Information Design for my tracks, and hopefully, that'll fully satisfy my desire to be immersed in the media. :D

Hi Sir! I'm a sophomore AB IS student, who recently just shifted from BS Mgt. I chose AB IS for my course because I believe that it would provide me with a flexible kind of learning experience, which would allow me to explore a variety of my interests, instead focusing on only one. I'd like to think that this could gear me up better for my future.
1. Favorite tv show: As of now, it would be Gossip Girl,hands-down. I basically like the show's plot and storyline, which I find very intriguing and engrossing. I also like the fact that the show features tons of fashionable clothes. Definitely eye-candy.
Favorite movie: As of late, I'd have to pick 'Across the Universe' since it featured some of my favorite Beatles' songs. I'm a huge fan of the Beatles. :)
Favorite book: I'm currently reading 'Twilight' by Stephenie Meyer, and I'm really loving every word of it. It's a definite page-turner.
2. I've been pretty media-dependent for as long as I can remember. Books, magazines, music,tv shows, movies, internet. Name it, I've patronized it.
3. As of the moment, I'm not yet sure how I'd be able to use this for my future career. But I'm sure it would be helpful though,in one way or the other. :)

Why I chose IS as my course? For me, taking up Interdisciplinary Studies is like taking up 2 courses at the same time. It's versatile and diverse. I believe that it can help me in the future if ever i've decided what to do.
1) name a favorite tv show or movie or book and state why it makes your list.
-> I watch various shows that catch my attention. It can be anything from reality shows, sitcoms, teleseryes (sometimes), gameshows, and anime. The same thing for movies but i usually go for the light ones, comedy, and action. NO HORROR PLEASE. hehe :P And as for books, i'm not really fond of reading but some noteworthy books that i've read are The Alchemist and Veronika Decides to Die, both by Paulo Coelho
2) how much time do you spend on the media in a typical day? do you consider yourself a heavy, medium, light user? a fan/addict/junkie of a particular technology or program or artist? why? how?
-> i rarely watch TV during weekdays since there's so much stuff to do already and i spend most of my time using the internet. I can say that i am a big fan of computer games although it's kinda rare for a girl to like them. I prefer to play role playing games (rpg's)since it's interesting, kills time and sometimes an escape from reality. hehe
3) how do you plan to make use of your course for your future career?
-> I'll go to law school! I'm not yet sure though. :)

Hello there. ^^
I am also one of the recent shiftees of AB IS, currently taking up my Junior year.
Formerly a Bio major, I opted to take this course as 1) a necessary means to resolve existing disparities between my parents (who are not so keen on the idea of years and years of med school) and I; and 2) as a most fitting alternative for me to have fun and enjoy myself, given the circumstances.
The thing that I appreciate most about this course is that it does not seek to limit, but rather enables us to keep our options open and explore. It is from this kind of freedom that I find the course most appealing.
I still have yet to find a favorite book, but closest to this (and pending) is Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes – one of the most endearing pieces of literature I have ever read. It is a very well-made sci-fi marvel, ingenious in its style and simplicity. What makes this book so beautiful is that it seeks to question our standards of intellectual being, in a character so uncomplicated that he becomes complex. The bottom-line of this fantastic novel is that “knowing it all doesn’t make us wiser, and neither does it make us happier.”
Aside from this book, I also have an unexplainable love for fairy tales, especially those of Spanish origin. >.<
My favorite movie would have to be The Godfather, Part 1. I believe it is the canon of all great movies, and anyone that has watched it (or the trilogy), I guess, would understand why it is still one of the best and most beloved classics, even today.
In terms of being a media user, I view myself in the moderate category in a sense that I’m not exactly a fan of it and am unable to utilize it to its fullest extent (a.k.a lack of resources); but I do enjoy it selectively, depending on its content and form. ^^;
It’s pretty hard not to be within range of the media’s line of fire, so it’s really interesting to be given a chance to analyze and employ it subjectively given that it encompasses nearly all aspects of our lives. ^^

Hi! I'm Kathleen Crespo. I'm a junior taking IS under the communications and psychology track. Even as a child I knew I wanted to take communications so I guess I'm happy :) IS is really flexible so it lets me do two things I want to do. I know my tracks are somehow related but I wanted to take both because they both compliment each other.
1) name a favorite tv show or movie or book and state why it makes your list.
My favorite tv show is one tree hill... i can't tell you why i like it cause even i don't understand it. and as shallow as it sounds i find myself lost in the confines of the town of the scott brothers =))
my favorite book is "a tree grows in brooklyn" its by betty smith and was written in the 1950's. lovely book :)
2) how much time do you spend on the media in a typical day? do you consider yourself a heavy, medium, light user? a fan/addict/junkie of a particular technology or program or artist? why? how?
i can't really say what i am but i know that i at least use it once a day. i like editing images and learning (through videos) makes it all the more fun :)
3) how do you plan to make use of your course for your future career?
this course is going to enhance my understanding of communications and through that i hope to apply it to what may be my occupation in the future :)

my favorite book is twilight... my favorite show is one tree hill... i know it makes me sounds shallow but the world is already way to complicated... i use these as a tool to relax.
i'm a medium used but i don't want too much tv its concentrated more on the internet and the services. i opt to download my tv shows instead of watching it live cause it allows me to watch it at my own time.
i plan to use it as a foundation for my comm track which i'll be able to relate to all the other comm classes i have taken namely advertising and basic tv and video production

I chose AB IS - Communication and Psychology because I feel that this course offers me the advantage of choosing tracks that will maximize my options and help explore my interests.
I enjoy watching tv series such as Friends and CSI Las Vegas. Friends, because I just can't get enough of the humor and I really don't get tired watching the episodes over and over again. I like CSI because of the great story line and script. I feel that it is always good that your mind works while having fun. My favorite book is Tuesday's with Morrie by Mitch Albom. This book made my list for it is both realistic and optimistic. I was able to relate with some of the characters and I was inspired by the story as well.
I feel that I am surrounded by media, however I do not consider myself an addict. I believe I use media for both necessity and luxury.
Honestly, I do not have a clear view of my future. For now, I take things one step at a time doing the best in what I need to do, and hoping that I end up using all that I learn and accomplish for my future.

Hi Sir!
I'm Ira, a Sophomore and currently taking Interdisciplinary Studies.
By taking Interdisciplinary Studies I can choose my own tracks of study. I can choose anything from Art to Business and learn a lot in between. It is a very flexible and interesting course because I can also take various electives that can strengthen other skills that are not touched by my chosen tracks. Also, being in the school of Humanities, my course strengthens the foundations of all other courses such as English, Filipino, Etc. I also believe that IS develops critical thinking and helps students be more independent and responsible in choosing their own tracks of study.
1) name a favorite tv show or movie or book and state why it makes your list.
-My favorite book so far is The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I found it really interesting how the main character described her own view of heaven and how after experiencing a tragic death, she was able to rise above it and make her heaven "her place on earth."
2) how much time do you spend on the media in a typical day? do you consider yourself a heavy, medium, light user? a fan/addict/junkie of a particular technology or program or artist? why? how?
-I would say i spend my whole day with various types of media. Aside from when i am sleeping of course. I make use of my cellphone, television, computer, ipod, books & etc. through out my everyday. So yeah, i can say i am a heavy user of media. For a few years now i have been a fan of my computer and the internet. It still facinates me with the various things i can discover through it.
3) how do you plan to make use of your course for your future career?
-Interdisciplinary Studies offers me a lot of options for what I can do after life in the Ateneo. If not enter a field that fully strengthens my chosen tracks I can also take part in jobs far from my tracks. IS being as flexible as it is, we can learn a little of everything through the years. Also, if ever i decide to enter the Corporate World, maybe a position in Human Resources/Marketing or if not maybe i could study further. I am not really sure at the moment ;)

1) name a favorite tv show or movie or book and state why it makes your list.
Hmmm. There are too many books I've yet to read, so my favorite book is always going to be the one I'm reading. I don't have one favorite film but I do have a favorite director. Anything Wes Anderson makes, I'll probably enjoy.
2) how much time do you spend on the media in a typical day? do you consider yourself a heavy, medium, light user? a fan/addict/junkie of a particular technology or program or artist? why? how?
I guess I'm a heavy user. I have this bad habit of checking my email every few hours or so. I'm not that into television though, if thats worth anything.
3) how do you plan to make use of your course for your future career?

Hi Sir :) I am Maria Alessandra "Alex" Dizon. I am currently a Third year AB IS student taking tracks in Information Design and Communication. I used to be in Environmental Science Course but then i had the feeling that i was not meant for the course and that my true calling was in advertising. This is the main reason why i shifted to IS and took two tracks gearing toward advertising.
My favoutire Tv show right now is "How I Met Your Mother" i'm currently watching the second season. I love the show because it's so hilarious! and my favoutire book would be "The Kite Runner". I just couldn't put the book down. I was so drawn to the story becuase the author was able to explain through the novel the rich culture and lifestyle of different people in afghanistan (if i am not mistaken)which is why the novel is now a movie! :D
I think I spend half of my day on media and I believe myself to be a heavy user and an addict of the television and the computer. why and how? Well, ever since I was a kid I was already glued to the tv (love watching movies!) and the computer (cause of playing games such as diablo, age of empires, etc). So, i guess until now that habit has not changed much beccuse of the fact that media is becoming more interesting and entertaining!

I chose my course, AB IS, since I liked the sense of variety it had to offer. Initially, I was bound on taking up AB Com, but then I realized that I wanted a wider range. I enjoy exploring my opportunities, and I found AB IS to be more suitable for me. Regarding my tracks, I went with Com and Psych not only because it makes a good combination, but also because I am interested in both fields.
1.) For my favorite TV shows, I love Lost for the drama and Friends for the comic relief. My favorite movie is Edward Scissorhands, because its story is strangely beautiful. Also, Johnny Depp, my favorite actor, is in it. One of my favorite books is Veronika Decides to Die, because it taught me to appreciate life better.
2.) Like most of the youth today, I am heavily exposed to media. I enjoy spending hours on the Internet, reading magazines, watching music videos, etc. Indeed, I find media to be such a useful technology since it provides the world with a great deal of information and entertainment.
3.) I plan to apply what I learn from my course when I enter my future career, hopefully one in Magazine Publications or Advertising. I believe that my course will discipline me into a stronger person and help me develop my skills in dealing with people, critical thinking, creativity, etc.

Im an IS major, comm and management track. the reason I chose this particular course is because it acts as a compromise between my likes and the likes of my parents'. it also gives students a broader option as to what path to take after college.
I'm one of those people who also got stuck in the series phenomena. CSI, numbers, smallville, supernatural, moonlight, house m.d., greys anatomy... these are just some of the titles that have cost me nights of sleep.
As for the time spent, Id have to say a lot, depending on how much free time is available. in a world thats surrounded by media, its quite impossible not to spend at least 4 hours a day on some form of it. Right after stepping through the door, I turn on the computer, listen to music, when a good show is on, i turn on the tv, and lets not forget youtube. in essence, i am a heavy user.

I’m Jennifer S. Ortiz, but I’d like it better if you’d just call me “Jennie”. Anyway, I’m taking up AB – IS, and I am now on my second year. I actually do not know how I got IS as my course in Ateneo. I’m not really sure what my first, second or third choice was, honestly. I just knew my first and second choices were either IS or Comm.
I love watching CSI (any season would do) and as of now, I am totally hooked on Gossip Girl. I have no favorite movie in particular, ‘cause I love watching movies all the time. It’s really hard to pick one from all of the movies I already saw, though I like “Chick Flicks”, yung parang kahit paulit-ulit mo panoorin okay pa rin. But I completely hate horror movies! My favorite book is actually a very very ancient book that belongs to my older brother. It’s a collection of stories from everywhere around the world, like Alice in Wonderland, this story from China which has five brothers in them (I can’t remember!), and many more (of course the only story familiar to me then was Alice in Wonderland). It was the first book I ever liked; I read it when I was in Grade 3. Parang ancient 1970’s pa ata yun. The book was hard-bound and the pages were stitched together, and now, it’s already super battered.
I could say that I am a heavy user of media at times, when I’m bored. I am an Internet, video games (but now not THAT much), television and music junkie. I could spend most of my day using these, if there is nothing to do. Fact: I like watching the news, but now that there are classes again, I can’t seem to watch news on a daily basis like before.
Though I am not truly sure if IS was really my first choice, I am happy to be able to take it up for college because I know that through it I can be flexible on whatever I want. I don’t know what I exactly want in the future. All I know is that studying two disciplines through IS would help me find out what I particularly want as I go through it. Basta in Communications, okay sa ‘kin ‘yun. :]

Hi, I found myself shifting out from Lit to IS primarily because I felt utterly limited by Lit. My friend described this feeling best when he said that every day, his opportunities shrink, narrow down. After all, I wouldn't really go around teaching or going to law school.
—I then realized that I needed to get out or go crazy knowing I messed myself up getting into something that I would and have avoided for a great deal of my life.
Being in IS allows me to justify putting time and effort into my non-literature pursuits. It helps me go along this way that I want for myself instead of it getting in my way or distancing me away from visual communication.
I personally like Kara no Kyoukai and I'm a fan of Makoto Shinkai movies like 5cm per Second. Both are vivid, visual orgasms and really need to be seen rather than described or looked at in screenshots. It's a visual high, I tell you.
I call on myself being a heavy media user, with me spending about 4-6 hours on the net reading tech and gaming blogs like Gizmodo, Akihabara News or Escapist, with the occassional delve into art and design, like Pingmag. I don't really go Youtube hunting, but only when someone posts a video on those blogs to I get the net video ball rolling.
My sister came from Comm and is now in advertising. I could do exactly the same thing but I would take up a creatives position. I've been gearing up for design, but also checking out illustration as well, spending quite some time teaching myself.
—for the meantime, you will hear me saying, "I can't draw" .
I could possibly start freelancing now however, the means to do freelancing are already within my grasp, but I feel unprepared yet to do that for the meantime.

Hi! I apologize for the late post. Our internet just got hooked up today. I am Michael Yu, 3 AB-IS and I shifted from MIS to IS last year because although I am, some say a 'techie', I felt a need for flexibility in my course where I can study about technology and media--which i am very interested in--and also be able to have a background in management.
One of my favorite TV shows is Top Gear under BBC. The show is informative and very fun to watch. It is edited in such away that you are left in awe as you watch the hosts race different cars with people in roller blades or even fighters jets.
I am a junkie for Apple products, an avid user of their different gadgets, the macbook pro, the time capsule, the Apple TV, the iPhone... I keep myself up to date with their recent developments, even on rumors concerning them.
In the future I plan to make use of my course in a business with media or comm as a competitive edge.

Hi, I'm Diorella Ann B. Agoncillo. I chose AB IS because it is a very flexible course that can strengthen my potentials and develop what is yet hidden. My track in Communication will definitely help me in further developing my skills in the field. It will also pave the way for me to enter the world of mass media, specifically, broadcast journalism. Creative writing, my other track, will continue to nurture my passion.
Book:
My ultimate favorite among many others is The Alchemist. It presents both negative and positive side of life which reflect reality. This Paulo Coelho book has inspired and driven me to dream big and work hard to reach my dreams.

i shifted into AB IS with the thought that management was too "straight" for me. sure, my interest in business is great, but i feel like i need to know more than just how to run or start one. with AB IS, i have the opportunity to continue with my business studies, as well as include communication studies, which i think will contribute to my efforts for a marketing/advertising career. my favorite book is "the Giver" by Lois Lowry. i know it's a "youth" book, but it's one of my favorites as it first got me into reading. well, i've sort of slowed down on the hobby, but am planning to get back at it. i am an internet junkie. i'm part of a team of students that recently put up an org on innovation, and its part of my job to fill up my head space with as much mindjunk as possible. it's not really junk, but random info. i'm on the net like 4-5 hours a day, reading up on the latest news in the business world, as well other articles relating to the things that interest me...which can be anything =D

I'm Jaime Barcelon. I chose IS because I could focus on two tracks: communication and theatre. Currently, I do have work outside of school as a performer (a pop group of Ryan Cayabyab called RCS with Sony) and I pretty much want to continue on with performing after I graduate. I chose these tracks because I feel they will best prepeare me for the world I want to pursue both on and offstage.
My favorite books are "Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky and "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jumpa Lahiri. I just like the way they're both written truthfully and straightforward. I like all kinds of movies both big ones and little independent ones. I enjoy reality tv a lot like American Idol.
I spend a medium amount of time online. Just enough for personal and school use. But sometimes if I'm too preoccupied or busy, I don't get on the computer at all. I do watch a lot of television and movies though.
I really feel that through the study of communication, I'll just be a step ahead of other artists/performers who only perform for themselves. I'll have a better grasp of what people want and adjust to it from what I've learned.

I chose AB IS as my course because of its flexibility. [I couldn’t decide between Comm and Pol. Sci. so I chose a course where I can take up both tracks ;) ]
FRIENDS is my all-time favorite t.v. show. I just find the characters hilarious.
I also love watching Greek, the Simpsons, Globe Trekker and How I Met Your Mother.
As for movies, my favorites are Cinema Paradiso, The Godfather (I & II), Amelie, My Blueberry Nights, Juno, The City of Gods…etc…. [yes, walang particular genre.:)]
I'm definitely a heavy user. I can't last a day without opening the television. I also always have my ipod with me.

All my life, I knew that I wanted to take Communications. I only chose AB-IS to pass Ateneo. As soon as I passed, I was eager to shift to Comm. Over time, I realized that I should just stick with AB-IS all the way. I can still take Comm as one of my tracks, aside from that I can specialize in another field. I choose to be a well-rounded person which is why I am in AB-IS.
MORE ABOUT ME:
1. My favorite movie is 'Just Like Heaven' because it's entertaining and gives the message that there is someone out there whom we're destined for.
2. I'm an internet junkie. I check my e-mail, multiply, friendster, and facebook account 3 times a day (when I wake-up, after school & before I sleep.) My yahoo messenger is left on as long as my computer is. I download many songs and watch TV shows online.
3. My course, AB-IS, produces well-rounded graduates who can thrive in many fields. I plan to work in the field of media and I know that my track in Communications will definitely help me.

Hi I'm Spanky Juinio currently a junior and shiftee taking up AB IS. Formerly I was a BS MGT major, some circumstances made me decide to shift to AB IS. My tracks are Com and Psych. My interests include sports, particularly basketball, cars, music, basically what any average teenager is into these days. I really want to pursue my inclination towards the media, in particular sportscasting. So far my com101 class seems fun and interesting. Peace.

Anyway, i am sheena duey. i chose AB Interdisciplinary Studies because i know that this course would fit to my interests and my talents. i like it cause we have a chance to choose two different tracks and i chose com and psychology.

Hi I'm Francis. II AB IS. I picked IS because I'm not really sure about my future. I don't know what to do after college and I think it's cool that i get to pick two tracks instead of just focusing on one discipline.
1) My favorite book is The Kite Runner. I found it very interesting how the author talked about family, friendship, betrayal, and war in one book.
2) I spend atleast six hours a day watching tv, surfing the net, or reading. But I don't consider myself as a heavy media user. I spend most of my time reading about and watching different sports. I go to different sites or watch a lot of tv just to know what's going on in sports world.
3) I think I want to focus on the different aspects of media using sports.

Hi I'm Arianne Co, II- AB IS. I chose IS because i didn't have that much of choice. My dad picked it for me hoping it would help me get in Ateneo. Surprise surprise i managed to get in but with it came doubts on whether or not i am smart enough to go to this school. Well, nowadays i'm cool with it. I'v emet some pretty interesting people in my block. Some of them are really smart and are 100% confident with their choices. They made me believe that the course i went to isn't just meant for athletes or those looking for a scapegoat when they are failing. I've grown to love my course because it enables students to work with most of their interests. I say most because i have a multitude of interests and hobbies that i want to utilize when i graduate so the course doesn't really answer ALL of my interests.. yet(?).
Since i have tons of interests i'm gonna share a bit to you guys :) i enjoy reading books and watching movies :) My favorite book so far is The Time Traveler's Wife. At first i was quite hesitant to read the book thinking it was TOO MUSHY. Hahaha it was but it was also very touching. I heard that it's going to be made into a film so it's a must watch for me :) and i invite all of you to watch as well (hahaha feeling celeb?)
I'm also very into video editing, drawing, creating crafts and mixing colors. I do photoshop and digital scrap booking. I make planners for my friends and other stuff like that. I know a bit about photography and have been influenced by my best friend to have an interest in architecture. I write stories too. I haven't written in a really long time mainly because i never finish writing them but i've grown to love writing feature articles and essays. I'm also athletic but i really can't get the hang of swimming and basketball :p
so there :)

I chose AB-IS because i liked the fact that i can choose tracks and I found the electives interesting. My tracks are comm and psych.
I enjoy reading books during long trips and the last book i finished was The Alchemist last summer. I do not watch a lot of TV but i do enjoy watching sports and movies. I spend about 1/6 of my day indulged in media. I use the computer for about 3 hours, watch a few minutes of TV and listen to a lot of music. i think i'm a light user. I really like people and advertising so i guess my course is perfect for me because i focus on things that i like.

I chose AB IS because I felt that it was flexible in terms of which subjects I can study.
In terms of books I love to read almost anything I rarely choose I can't seem to sleep without a good read I recently finished "the time travelers wife" and I am now reading a biography of James Bond. I watch mostly TV shows like heroes and venture brothers a cartoon in cartoon network adult swim in the states. I watch any movie that floats my boat and for me Media is a must in today's world no matter how much you think you don't use media In the future I hope to use what I learned about media in any endeavors I encounter.

Hi Sir :) I'm Allysson Villamor. I chose IS as my course because a friend told me that it was the easiest course to get in Ateneo. haha! I actually didn't know what it was about at first, I just chose it because I wasn't expecting to get accepted into Ateneo anyway. But about a month after the school started, I fell in love with my course because of the tracks I chose (comm and id) and decided not to shift anymore. yay. :) haha!
Anyway, I have lots of favorite TV shows but Nip/Tuck is probably at the top of my list. I like it because there's a new story every episode based on their patient's life and it's always interesting. Plus, the overall plot is really exciting :) And also, I've always wanted to be a plastic surgeon. :) haha!
